Lowell Observatory (Flagstaff, AZ) – August 2008

 I originally posted some of these pictures with a travel blog write-up (and the link to the original was below).  I decided I wanted to share all the pictures I took of a particular area of point of interest, so some of these you will have seen before if you’ve been following this blog for a bit.  The link below gives more of the details, so I’m not going to rehash them here.  You’ll see that as I’d gotten a digital camera around this time, the number of pictures of an area has increased.

 Strangely as I was staying in Flagstaff during this trip, I ended up visiting few places in Flagstaff.  It was meant to be my base of operations, but I fully intended to see other places within the city too.  Well, I ended up spending two days in Sedona instead of the originally planned one, and I checked out a day early so I could spend some time in Phoenix.  Still, the main thing in Flagstaff I wanted to see was Lowell Observatory, and I was able to do that.  Had I known Bobby then, I would’ve taken a crap-ton of more pictures.  But I was able to experience the place as someone with genuine interest, as opposed to some asshole tourist who simply took an endless supply of pictures.

Cockscomb Trail and Boynton Canyon (Sedona, AZ) – August 2008

 I originally posted some of these pictures with a travel blog write-up (and the link to the original was below).  I decided I wanted to share all the pictures I took of a particular area of point of interest, so some of these you will have seen before if you’ve been following this blog for a bit.  The link below gives more of the details, so I’m not going to rehash them here.  You’ll see that as I’d gotten a digital camera around this time, the number of pictures of an area has increased.

 After my lunch, I found what looked like a relatively short trail at Cockscomb, and figured that would be a good one to do.  It was the middle of the day, and very sunny.  The trail was all out in the open, without a lick of shade.  And a good portion of the trail paralleled a 4x4 path.  I’d gone a distance when I encountered a vehicle, whose driver told me the scenery I had now was pretty much what I was going to get for the rest of the trail.  I figured I’d call it good, and head towards the Boynton Canon on the very north of the city.  That looked like a nice wooded (shaded) trail, and pretty straight-forward.  There was another group which had started it a few moments before me.  While it didn’t take long to catch up with them, and keep up with them, they were doing this one-way (as they were heading to a friend’s place at the end).  I had to think about being able to hike out of this, so I did about three-quarters of it before heading back.  That was the good call, as I’d exhausted my water supply just as I reached the car, and my feet hurt like hell from all the hiking I did that day.  It was worth it though.

Mystic Trail and Overlook Point (Sedona, AZ) – August 2008

 Mystic Trail was just that, a pretty short hike.  But since that was my third one of the day (first after second breakfast) that was fine.  It allowed me to see other interesting rock formations.  Overlook Point was a short item as well, because it just a way to get to you a place with a good vista of the city.  While I was there, I decided to do a 360 shot, as the camera would stitch the individual frames together when you hit a certain setting.  I mentioned it to the people who were sunbathing there, so they stepped out of the way I started the shot.  By the time I’d come back around, they’d returned to their position, so I ended up having them in the picture anyway.
