My Mum took these pictures. Don’t forget that San Diego is on the West Coast, and was near some great beaches. No matter what tourist things you do when you’re here, be sure to enjoy the beaches. And catch a sunset too. Not much else needs to be said about these great views.

Cabrillo National Monument (San Diego, California) – February 2013
My Mum took these pictures. At the southern tip of Point Lorma (in San Diego) can be found the Cabrillo National Monument (which is a part of the US National Register of Historic Places). This marks the first time (and location) of when a European expedition had set foot on the West Coast of what would be the United States in 1542. It’s a small park which offers a nice view of the San Diego skyline, as well as the Old Point Lorma Lighthouse, which has been in existence since 1855. There’s a small museum there which gives more details of the historical significance of the place. No matter what your view on the actions of the Europeans who arrived here, this was still history and should be learned.

USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum (San Diego, California) – February 2013
My Mum took these pictures. Located in the vicinity of other attractions (like the San Diego Zoo) is the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum. This was a fascinating way to step into history by looking at the various planes on the deck, and seeing how sailors lived on this vessel below decks. The aircraft present are originals from the 1940’s through the 1960’s, and all have been restored. There’s also a “pilot trainer” which you can get in for the feeling of being inside the cockpit. There’s lots to see here, so be sure to give yourself enough time to experience it all.
