Pelican Cove Beach (St. Croix, US Virgin Islands) – June 2014

Ah, my return to St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands.  USVI is a cluster of three islands, and St. Croix is the largest, but farthest away from the “clump” of the three islands.  And it’s one not visited as often by tourists, so direct-flights there are non-existent.  The blog was a detailed entry of the trip, and all the interesting things which happened along the way.  So enjoy the pictures I took of Pelican Cove Beach (where I was staying) the first morning of my return.

Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry (Austin, TX) – April 2014

So after enjoying the air show, I took the time to explore the Military Forces Museum which was on base.  I had made a brief visit once before, but today I had the time to really soak in the exhibits.  There were things specific to what the Texas regiments did, like the Allied invasion of Italy during World War Two (the Battle of Salerno), as well as more-recent involvements in the Iraq War.  A nice treat was a section of the Berlin Wall too.  Also there were vehicles used by the Texas National Guard.  This was something which was open year-round, so you can always go over to check it out.

Camp Mabry Air Show (Austin, TX) – April 2014

Located in northern part of the city of Austin is the National Guard base known as Camp Mabry.  To most people it’s just a place you drive by while traveling on Mopac Expressway.  But I learned of an air show that would be happening, and had the opportunity to get over there and enjoy it.  Again refer to the original blog for the details.  But you’ll get to see where I explored military aircraft (like the Apache helicopter), and got to check out other pieces of hardware from support vehicle to small weapons (without ammo loaded).  It was a safe and educational experience, and one which was a lot of fun (as you could tell from the expression on my face).
