St. Croix – Cane Bay (U.S. Virgin Islands) – August 2012

I know you’ve seen this standard opening before.  But I just have to note that some of these pictures were posted originally with the travel blog write-up (original link below).  Now instead of a select few, I’m sharing just about all the pictures.  Please be sure to visit the original blog link for more details of the original visit.

One of the main areas on the north side was Cane Bay.  There was a beach to enjoy, and a great restaurant (called “Eat at Cane Bay”).  It’s also the best place on the island for diving, as where the drops dramatically (which was referred to as “The Wall”).  This area was a bit more secluded, and generally more where locals hang out.  There were also some nice properties which I looked at (and couldn’t afford).

There was also a stone tower up on a hill, which was the only thing which remained of a sugar cane plantation.  These towers are scattered all over the island.  I was able to trek up to the column and look around to get some elevated pictures of the area.  At the top of the hill was a white box.  That’s a burial site.  No one here is buried below ground due to the water table.  But to be buried on a hillside with a great view, you can’t beat that!

St. Croix – Exploring the North Part (U.S.

As part of my exploration of the island, on the idea that I wanted to move there, it was good to go as many places as possible.  I mean it’s nice to sit on the beach all day and work on the tan, but seeing new things was good too.  Besides, I was paying for a rental car, so might as well use it.  I went up the north part of the island, and enjoyed driving on the left side of the road. My eyes soaked in the scenery, and wherever I could I pulled off the road in order to take some pictures.

The original blog gives more details of the actual routes taken, so you know exactly where I was.  I’m sure many of those little bays and coves have their own names, but I don’t recall seeing signs which said that.  But my driving plan as I tooled around the northern part of the island was to make my way towards Cane Bay.
