Camp Mabry Air Show (Austin, TX) – April 2014

 Located in northern part of the city of Austin is the National Guard base known as Camp Mabry.  To most people it’s just a place you drive by while traveling on Mopac Expressway.  But I learned of an air show that would be happening, and had the opportunity to get over there and enjoy it.  Again refer to the original blog for the details.  But you’ll get to see where I explored military aircraft (like the Apache helicopter), and got to check out other pieces of hardware from support vehicle to small weapons (without ammo loaded).  It was a safe and educational experience, and one which was a lot of fun (as you could tell from the expression on my face).

Austin Cave Day – Return to Avery Ranch Cave (Cedar Park, TX) – April 2014

 I got to visit this location in 2012 thanks to the efforts of the Texas Cave Conservatory, and it was a great experience.  Not sure how I missed it on 2013.  Either they didn’t have the caves open that year, I was already committed to something that weekend, or I just missed it completely.  No matter as I was able to get to see them again this year.  The details of the previous visit were in the blog link below, so no need to repeat them.  Just enjoy all the pictures of the caves I took.

Flat Stanley Travels Around Round Rock (TX) – December 2013

 This was not a prior blog entry, but probably should’ve been.  So I received a “Flat Stanley” in the mail from my niece Kayla, with an assignment to take him around my neighborhood.  I was to take pictures of parks, schools, are other interesting things in my area, and return those so Kayla could present to her class where Flat Stanley had been … and what she learned about the area.

 Stoop thought it was a great idea, as it gave him a chance to have some nice walks in various places.  So we went to the Chisholm Trail Park to see the cattle statues, as well as the actual rock the city was named after.  We went over to the Dell Diamond for a brief look, and the got some exterior shots of the schools nearest to me (as it was part of the assignment).

 We also went over a short time later to get some shots of Memorial Park, which was just east of Chisholm Trail Park.  You can see the old wagon tracks which were made in the muddy ground before it hardened into the rock it is now.  The “round rock” served as a marker for water depth for the wagons which once traveled the Chisholm Trail.
