 When you locate a great place that really interests you, you spend the time soaking in all the information and enjoying the experience.  And sometimes you just neglect to take a bunch of pictures because you’re enjoying it that much.  Enjoy this one I did, but I wish I’d taken more pictures for the memories.  Also, I’m been informed that a few years after visiting this museum, it changed to a new location, and then a year or so after it closed completely.  Most of the collection was broken up and sold, so who knows where these things are now.  But it was nice that I got to experience this moment in time when it was there.

Stonehenge II (Hunt, TX) – March 2009

 At the time of the visitation of this place, it was located near Hunt, Texas (but I understand it’s moved a short distance now from the original location).  We just happened to find it listed in a “Things To Do” book, and thought it would be a nice drive to set out to find it.  The directions were sparse, and as we rounded a corner there it was.  Not made out of stone, and a smaller scale than the original, it was done as a novelty.  And eventually there were a couple replicas of Easter Island statues added too.  It’s just a fun thing to see on an afternoon drive.

Arizona State History Museum at the Capitol (Phoenix, AZ) – August 2008

 I originally posted some of these pictures with a travel blog write-up (and the link to the original was below).  I decided I wanted to share all the pictures I took of a particular area of point of interest, so some of these you will have seen before if you’ve been following this blog for a bit.  The link below gives more of the details, so I’m not going to rehash them here.  You’ll see that as I’d gotten a digital camera around this time, the number of pictures of an area has increased.

 There was an actual name for this place, but I don’t recall it.  Basically, you went in the state capitol building, and there was a section showing some state history.  Perhaps it didn’t have a separate name, but the above should be enough so you can find it.  This wasn’t extensive, so about an hour was enough to see it all, but it was sufficient to give you a taste.  From native artwork to a display on the Buffalo Soldiers, this was pretty cool.  The most interesting was an actual piece of the USS Arizona, which technically has never been decommissioned.  Outside the building were various pieces of sculpture and some interesting rocks.
