Montezuma Well (Lake Montezuma, AZ) – September 2007

This was a natural depression fed by an underground spring which was used by the native people for generations before some stupid white people gave it the name it now bares.  The cliff-houses date back to the 14th century.  The stream leading from the well has always been there, but the path next to it has been enhanced in modern times.  Nearby are the remains of a “pithouse” which was a wooden structure partially underground.  The holes in the floor are where the support beams used to be.  The pithouse dates back to about 400 AD.
