Battleship Texas (La Porte, TX) – September 2013

 As you could see from the pictures of the last blog, or if you’ve read the link below, you knew what we did next.  Berthed next door was the Battleship Texas, which was first placed into service in 1914.  It did see a lot of action during World War Two though, as it assisted in both the invasions of Normandy and Iwo Jima.  After that, it was decommissioned, and brought to this location in 1948.  One of the great things about this was the self-guided tour aspect, so excepting a few areas sealed for “historical purposes,” we were able to wander through just about everywhere here.  That really gave you a good idea of what life aboard ship was like.  Pieces of history like this are always worth visiting.
