I originally posted some of these pictures with a travel blog
write-up (and the link to the original was below). I decided I wanted to share all the pictures
I took of a particular area of point of interest, so some of these you will
have seen before if you’ve been following this blog for a bit.
When I was asked if I wanted to go to a dinner theater to watch
knights joust and duel with each other, I was quick to respond “Hell yes!” Keep in mind that these are skilled actors
playing their parts, so no actual intended violence and bloodshed. There are a number of locations across the
country, each with their own castle exterior.
Inside I assume look pretty much the same. It looks like a sand-filled hockey rink with
stadium seating, and when you purchased your tickets you were placed in a
particular colored section. That
represented the knight you were supposed to cheer for.
You’re encouraged to wear the stupid paper crowns, so I did it as
part of the fun. Flash photography was
discouraged, so the pictures weren’t as good as they could’ve been. But the knights perform various challenges
(no scripted) to see who ends up being potential champions, to face the ejected
“evil knight” (which was scripted). So
why there was some pre-planning for the event, there was the action of a
sporting event as you wanted your guy to win.
You ate your food with your hands, and serving wenches came by
with a hot towel afterwards so you could clean the gunk off your hands. It was a fun activity, and worth the cost.
