Deeth (Elko County, Nevada) – September 2008

My Mum took these pictures.  This was near where the “western relatives” live.  The town of Deeth was established as a stop-over on the rail lines in 1869, although it didn’t get a post office until 1875.  The area primarily was supported by cattle ranching, and still does into the modern day.  A fire in 1915 destroyed most of the town, which was never rebuilt.  Some urban development was done more recently, but as the pictures show most of that was abandoned too.  Other than the post office (which still remains in operation) there isn’t much here anymore.
